Aileron Tailpiece

If I make the aileron tailpiece exactly as shown in the drawings, it appears I have to notch the capstrip. Is that correct? The rib drawing is difficult to understand. The bottom edge of the tailpiece is resting on the capstrip, but the top is confusing as it appears the capstrip retains its' 1/4" dimension. Soooo, just checking.

By the way, if you spend time on something, don't like it and throw it away, do you still log that time in the builders log?

I can't believe how much time I've spent on workshop preparation and making jigs. I'm trying different techniques for making templates (nose, tail, etc), and once I'm happy, I can get to work.

I don't have the drawings handy at the moment, but I did not notch the capstrip at the tailpiece.

As for the logging question, anything that you spend time doing that is involved in the construction of the plane should be logged IMHO. Thumbing through an ACS catalog or flipping through the 8 1/2 x 11 version of the plans over a cup of coffee wouldn't count, but if you build a jig or build a part that turns out poorly and is thrown away, that still counts as building time. You are working on the plane and trying make something or solve a problem. Even licensed mechanics don't always get it right the first time.
