Hatz Biplane Association

EAA/Falcon is not offering either hull or liability insurance on the Hatz. I have been flying "self-insured" for the past 18 months but as more and more people are wanting that biplane experience I am feeling the need get some coverage.

Sorry this probably should have been in the general stuff thread.

I have had no problem insuring with AVEMCO and the premiums are lower.

This got my attention so I called my friendly Falcon agent, Harvest Jones, and she reassured me that I can obtain insurance for my Hatz. I have 400 hours in tailwheel aircraft but she said as little as 25 hours is needed to satisfy their underwriters.

I've been with Falcon for the past 4 years. They insure my tailwheel Sonerai. I obtained a quote from Avemco a year ago for the Sonerai and it was double what I pay with Falcon.

The coverage I tend to subscribe to covers me fully till I pull onto the runway. It then becomes liability only till I pull off the runway after landing., at which time it becomes full hull coverage once again. I built it. I figure if I bend, it I'll fix it. If some one taxis into it or the wind rips it out of its tie downs, it's covered.

I have been very happy with AUA out of Georgia. They insured me with o hours in type, (I had a couple thousand hours in taildraggers) and no ownership history (my first personal airplane). The first year premium was a little high ($1000) but in my third year it is about 1/3 of that. I have none movement hull coverage and full liability, same thoughts as Mark, if I bend it I will fix it.

I shopped it around last spring and no one else was within $200 buck. So far no need to use it, knock on spruce.

Ditto, Luke. I used AUA in the 80's to insure my Pitts and was happy with the rates and very happy with a quick payout when the aircraft suffered a gear failure (cold weld... I didn't build it) and went over on it's back. Glad to hear they are still in the A/C insurance business

After the post they got back to me with a $1600 quote for $65000 coverage and liability. Will check out the other sources suggested thanks to you all. Have self insured the Hatz and Kitfox to this point. Continuing with liability only ob the Kitfox.

Had been with Falcon with my other planes for since EAA began their offering but when adding the Hatz they could not compete with the AOPA rates from Global. Ended up going with liability only this year. You would think that a multiplane discount would come onto play, I can only fly one of them at a time
