Re: Alterations to the Classic plans on the "Vintage Hatz"
I’m just getting into the group, but have been reading for awhile. I’m currently building the classic and going with the Scarlet 9 radial. The wings are mounted for fit at this time and currently working on turtle deck.. anyway, the plans I’m working from are from 2002… I took over a bunch of collected unbuilt parts last year. What updates do I need to modify the landing gear? The engine mount will be made by Scalebirds..

I'm mounting the Rotec R3600. I just used the regular gear. If I use the recommended 84" propeller I should have 9" clerance.

When making the front door, did you cut and lower the top longeron? And if so what tubing structure did you use.
Thanks,
Jim

I did cut out the upper longeron. I based the location of the new sill on the second stringer from the top. It's just above the throttle linkage. I used 3/4 035 to build the new sill and frame around the door. The outside matches the shape of the stringers. I added a couple of cross members from the lower frame to the sill. I used 1/2 035 for the door frame itself. I got the idea from Mark Taylor. He sent me some pictures of his. You can see my structure in the picture below.
