Heart attack! (almost)

Post by painless »

I have been working on the aileron spar for my top left wing. Found the drawing that notes its dimensions and designed taper. When cutting expensive pieces of spruce that would require ordering new stock if I screw up ( like THAT ever happens) I made a dummy spar out of lumberyard wood just to check the dimensions/fit.

To my horror, the taper on the aileron spar in no way jived with that of the main and rear spars. You know that sudden flow of adrenalin you get when you first realize you may be in trouble? That "fight or flight" reaction? Well I got that in spades. Heart rate went up, respiration increased, that sweaty brow feeling came over me.

What the heck did I do wrong???!! I musta screwed up the tapers on my spars!!!! Oh crap.....I just built a pile of kindling! Maybe I can make a table out of it....

Then I remembered the thread on this forum about plan discrepancies. Sure enough, there it was. Whew! Just another example of how great it is to have this forum as a resource.

Thanks for all you do maintaining this site Doug.

My pleasure guys. It's really all the builders that help each other out. My job is to remind folks to POST ON THE FORUM! :D Info is great, but it's even better when it is placed where everyone can benefit from it.
